ExxonMobil Chemical Introduces Exceed™ 1012 mVLDPE for Faster Packaging Line Speeds and Simple Converting Operations

ExxonMobil Chemical has introduced Exceed™ 1012 metallocene catalyzed very low density polyethylene (mVLDPE) resin into Europe, Middle-East and Africa following its commercial success in North America.  Exceed 1012 mVLDPE resin has a seal initiation temperature 10°C lower than Exceed 1018 mPE resin making it well suited for the sealant layer in lamination films.      

Compared to other state-of-the-art PE sealant resins, Exceed 1012 mVLDPE delivers a lower sealing temperature that requires about 20 percent less sealing time to achieve maximum seal strength.  This provides the potential to increase packaging lines speed by up to seven percent without losing seal integrity.

“Many converters are currently blending Exceed 1018 PE resin with a plastomer to achieve low seal initiation temperatures in a sealant film,” says Francois Chambon, Market Development Manager, ExxonMobil Chemical.  “Now Exceed 1012 mVLDPE provides a single resin alternative.”

Exhibiting outstanding hot-tack performance over a broad temperature range, Exceed 1012 mVLDPE delivers good sealant film performance on the filling line when sealing jaw temperatures vary, including when line speed varies at start-up and shut down.

“With the toughness and optical properties typical of Exceed mPE resins, Exceed 1012 mVLDPE can create opportunities to downgauge film thickness.  This can allow customers to do more with less,” says Chambon.  “It can also simplify operations by eliminating dry blending and reduce costs by decreasing the number of raw materials in inventory.”
